DIY Skincare Treatments You Should Try

DIY Skincare Treatments You Should Try

Summer is finally here, and the COVID pandemic in the U.S is fading into oblivion (or, at least, becoming less of a presence in our daily lives). For many of us, this means it’s time for parties, picnics, and everything in between. We can finally socialize in person again, and it will surely be a summer to remember.

This season calls for trips to the beach, dips in the pool, and long days spent in the sun. While all of these summer activities are a blast, it’s important to remember one thing about the summer heat: most of the time, your makeup will just melt right off. That’s why many people opt for a fresh-faced, minimal-makeup look during the summer months.

If you fall into that category, you might be looking for ways to give your skin a little boost before this season really kicks off. You want your skin to look and feel its very best, so you can enjoy the summertime without any worries. We totally get that.

This is why we’ve decided to put together a list of our favorite DIY skincare treatments. These DIY methods will help you prep your skin for three months of fun in the sun (just don’t forget your sunscreen!). Hopefully, these tips will help give you the confidence you need to feel comfortable in your own skin this summer.

So, read on for the best DIY skincare treatments you need to try right now.

DIY Skincare Treatments: The Basics

First things first, let’s discuss the basics. What do we mean by that, exactly? Well, if you’re looking for a DIY treatment that’s so simple it pretty much requires no effort at all, you’re in the right place.

All of these treatments only require one, maybe two, ingredients. Here are a few of our favorites:

Aloe Vera

As you surely know, aloe vera is an excellent treatment for sunburns. But were you aware that the ingredient has countless additional benefits?

Firstly, aloe vera is great for healing more than just sunburns—applying it to abrasions, cuts, and even true burns may help those areas heal. In addition, if your face or body is feeling dry, Aloe vera is an effective moisturizer (especially for oily skin). You can even use aloe vera on areas affected by eczema or psoriasis.

If you’re looking for a single ingredient skin treatment, you simply have to try aloe vera.

Green Tea

Moving onto another green ingredient, let’s talk about green tea. This stuff has much more to offer beyond just being a yummy drink.

Green tea contains high levels of antioxidants, which means it may have anti-aging effects. In other words, it might help you fight wrinkles and fine lines. Moreover, it may even help mitigate the effects of sun damage.

To use green tea on your skin, try spritzing green tea onto your face with a spray bottle. Let it sit for 10-20 minutes, then simply rinse it off. This will allow your skin to feel those powerful benefits.

Oatmeal

Finally, we should discuss a classic DIY skincare ingredient—oatmeal. Oatmeal is a soothing, anti-inflammatory substance that’s great for the whole body. In particular, oatmeal is an ideal ingredient for treating things like irritated skin, eczema, and rashes.

Colloidal oatmeal, or oatmeal that has been ground into very tiny particles, is best for skin care. If you have some ground oats on hand, simply mix them with water and apply that paste to your face or body. This should leave your skin feeling calm and rejuvenated.

DIY Face Masks

Now, let’s move on to a few treatments that are a bit more complicated (just a bit). Of course, you can concoct any of these DIY face masks at home, so they can’t be that complex.

Sometimes, you just get in the mood to give yourself a little love and give your skin an immediate boost. Or, maybe you’re trying to treat an acne outbreak, hoping it heals overnight before a big event.

Either way, if you want to make your skin feel fabulous without ever leaving your house, try one of these at-home masks:

Turmeric

You can never go wrong with a turmeric face mask. Turmeric is a true superfood, a miracle ingredient. It has so many great benefits to offer, like its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties. Better yet, it’s super affordable.

When it comes to mixing your own turmeric mask, there are countless recipe options. For example, here’s a go-to recipe that never fails:

  • 1 teaspoon turmeric root powder
  • 2 tablespoons ground oats
  • 3 tablespoons plain yogurt
  • 3 drops of raw honey

    • All you need to do is mix all of these ingredients together and apply the smooth paste to your face. Allow the mask to sit for about 15 minutes, and then rinse your skin. This mask should give your skin an instant radiant glow, and it only takes a few moments to make. What more could you want?

      Cocoa

This is another mask that’s packed with antioxidants, which means it will do wonders for your skin. It’s a rejuvenating cocoa mask. All you need for this treatment is a few household ingredients:

    • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
    • 1 tablespoon sour cream
    • 1 tablespoon honey
    • 1 egg white
    •

As you can see, this mask is extremely simple. Just combine all of these ingredients and apply the finished product to your face. Let the mask dry, and then remove it by cleansing your face. Voila! You’re done.

Hopefully, this mask will help your skin look and feel as youthful as ever.

      Exfoliators and More

Finally, in our third category, we have a few treatments that don’t quite fit into the face mask club. Check out these two DIY treatments to really take your at-home treatment to the next level.

      Sugar Face Scrub

If you’re looking for a natural, simple exfoliant, try concocting a sugar face scrub. This will help remove any dead skin cells and stubborn dirt and grime from your face.

For this scrub, simply mix these ingredients:

    • ½ cup brown sugar
    • 3 tablespoons honey
    • 2 tablespoons oil

    •

Then, gently apply the mixture to your face. Let it be for a few minutes (about five to ten), and then rinse it. You can even apply some to your body.

This easy treatment should make your skin feel soft and smooth.

      Cucumber Eye Mask

Finally, a classic: the cucumber eye mask. All you need for this is one simple ingredient—a cucumber, of course.

All you have to do is grate a very cold cucumber over a paper towel. Then, use the paper towel to wrap up the grated pieces into a tight roll. This will create a sort of compress that you can then apply to your eyes.

This method is perfect for de-puffing your eyes and soothing irritated skin in that area. It’s so simple; there’s no reason not to try it!

      Wrapping It Up

With these DIY skincare treatments at your disposal, you should be ready for a carefree, confident summer. Hopefully, these methods make your skin look and feel amazing, setting you up for a fun-filled season!

Finally, if you’re not in the mood to mix your own face mask, be sure to check out our Vitamin C Clay Mask. It’s packed with many of the potent ingredients we mentioned above, and it will leave your skin with a natural, gorgeous glow.
