What is in the Gleamin Vitamin C Clay Mask?
The Gleamin Vitamin C Clay Mask combines a vitamin C blend of Kakadu plum and desert lime from Australia with turmeric root powder and extract, kaolin and Hydroclay to lift away oil and buildup, and aloe vera and glycerin to keep skin comfortable. It also contains kale extract, grape seed and safflower oils, and vitamin E. Iron oxides give it its warm color.
See the full ingredient list on the Vitamin C Clay Mask page or the Amazon listing, and read Inside Our Vitamin C Clay Mask.
What does turmeric do for your skin?
Turmeric contains curcumin and related compounds that act as antioxidants and have calming properties, which is why it has been part of skin rituals in South Asia for centuries. In skincare, turmeric extracts can help skin look brighter and calmer, and lab studies show curcumin can slow tyrosinase, the enzyme behind pigment production.
Human research is still limited, so turmeric works best as a supporting ingredient alongside well-studied ones like vitamin C and niacinamide.
Does a turmeric face mask stain your skin?
A turmeric face mask can leave a temporary yellow tint, especially one made with raw turmeric powder, which is intensely pigmented. Formulated masks usually use turmeric extracts at lower levels and rinse off more cleanly.
If you're left with a tint, wipe the area with a little oil or micellar water, then cleanse gently. Don't scrub, since friction irritates skin. The tint usually goes within hours to a day. Turmeric also stains towels, so use a dark one.
Does turmeric help with dark spots?
Turmeric may help dark spots look a little less noticeable, but the evidence is modest. Curcumin, its main active compound, slows tyrosinase in lab studies, but research in people is still limited. It isn't as well researched as vitamin C or niacinamide.
It's best used in a formulated product rather than as raw powder, and with daily sunscreen, which matters more than any single ingredient.
Is a DIY turmeric face mask safe?
A homemade turmeric face mask is usually low risk, but it has drawbacks. Raw turmeric powder stains skin and fabric, the amount isn't controlled, and kitchen ingredients can carry bacteria. Some people develop allergic contact dermatitis to turmeric.
Never add lemon juice, which can burn skin in sunlight, or baking soda, which is too alkaline. If you try it, patch test first, mix the turmeric with plain yogurt or honey, leave it on for 10 minutes and rinse well.
